Style & Choreography!! The Male Model Music Project at Band of Outsiders Show SS 012

Words & photos by Ivan Guerrero

The Male Model Music Project attended Band Of Outsiders Show at the ex-'Manifattura Tabacchi', former cigar factory in Florence, Italy.
The man behind Californian brand Band of Outsiders is Scott Sternberg, guest designer at the 80th edition of Pitti Uomo.
For this particular event, he presented the men's Spring/Summer 2012 collection along with his women's Resort 2012 collection "Boy" including his latest collection "Girl".
For The Male Model Music Project's pleasure, the show was inspired by 'West Side Story' ( highly acclaimed musical film from 1961) featuring an amazing display of American nostalgia, choreography and music that matched perfectly the colourful, playful and vibrant collection. A homage to LA and the American classic lifestyle.
Check out the photos of the performance offered by the dance crew dressed in preppy and colourful outfits simulating various scenes from 'West Side Story' interacting with the fashion show.
Make sure to check out the videos aswell in order to see the full collection and get a better idea of the performance that night.

Opening sequence. West Side Story. The movie set in NYC in the 1950's, tells the story of the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two gangs with different ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
The protagonist, Tony, falls in love with Maria, the sister of Bernardo who belongs to the Sharks.

The gangs fight while Tony falls in love with Maria.

The dancers interacted with the models, between a mixture of irony and provocation.

The Soundtrack of Band of Outsiders SS 012
As I mentioned before, the show was inspired by 'West Side Story', featuring a few tracks from the original soundtrack, for example, we can find'Overture' and 'America'.
The music was composed by Leonard Bernstein and the lyrics were written by Stephen Sondheim.
A remixed version of 'Lollipop' performed by The Chordettes could also be heard during the show. (the original version was released in 1958)

A classic. 'West Side Story', originally a Broadway production choreographed by Jerome Robbins and written by Arthur Laurents.
In 1961, the film version of the musical arrived. Directed by Robert Wise & Jerome Robbins, starring Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer and Russ Tamblyn.
The film won 10 Academy Awards and became one of the most succesful musicals ever.
