ON THE STAGE!!!! Romeo, Juliet & The Male Model Music Project's evening at the theater

Story & photos by Ivan Guerrero

The Male Model Music Project at the theater enjoying 'Romeo & Juliet' performed by The Russian State Ballet Mari El, directed and choreographed by Konstantin Ivanov, with the participation of the young soloists and dancers of the company featuring Olga Chelpanova as Juliet and Konstantin Korotkov who has played Romeo during their 2012 tour around the most important venues of Mexico.
Special thanks to Konstantin Ivanov and the rest of the company.
Sergei Prokofiev's 'Romeo & Juliet's original version consists of 4 acts (some sources indicate 3) with 10 scenes which feature 52 separate dance numbers! but for the tour, the performance has been edited for only 2 acts in total due to the fact the final running time would be over 2 hours!!

Composed by Sergei Prokofiev and based on a script written by Adrian Piotrovsky, the original ballet was completed in 1935, commissioned by the Kirov Ballet and choreographed by relevant dance figures over the decades, including John Cranko and Rudolf Nureyev who created a new version of 'Romeo & Juliet' for the London Festival Ballet in 1977.
The ballet, of course, has been through several reinterpreations and modifications according to the country and the company that has performed it over the years. Keep in mind Prokofiev's original score has also been subject to reconstruction procedures and historical research.
