The Male Model Music Project's Backstage Inspection Series: Skingraft SS 2014 (2013 EXTRA PICS EDITION)

Story & photos by Ivan Guerrero
LA-based designer Johnny Cota's label Skingraft made its debut in New York Fashion Week for the Spring/Summer 2014 Season so it was a great opportunity to sneak backstage to get to know more of his brand in full action before the show.
Skingraft pays attention to leather, and despite the challenges that this material represents for a spring collection, they definitely create a world of their own succesfully. Hard and soft at the same time, Skingraft draws inspiration from exoskeletons and Papua New Guinea's tribal warpaints reinterpreting sportswear pieces with armor structured garments and dresses. A monochromatic palette with a few flashes of colour (blue and mustard yellow, for example) that works amazing. Daring, strong, but most of all, artistic.
As a photographer, I can say this was a cinematographic evening. You dont' get to see everyday, a lineup of great models becoming warriors in a Skingraft way, which was quite different than my other experiences in the past. It's a yes for Skingraft. Enjoy the pics.

The Male Model Music Project's Backstage Inspection Series: Katya Leonovich Spring 2014 (2013 EXTRA PICS EDITION)

Story & photos by Ivan Guerrero
Katya Leonovich was actually my first 100% female model official backstage coverage in New York City. After castings full of boys now it was my time to finally meet the girls behind the scenes and I must say it was an amazing experience so far. At the beginning I was a little scared since I actually did not know how to handle female models for backstage pics. I'm really aware that photographing women requires to have some special nerve, in terms that you have to be more careful in the way you approach them in order to achieve your goal but at the same time you have to avoid disturbing the staff in their activities. It was a pleasant surprise that the girls were quite open and relaxed, some of them even posed spontaneously and did not hesitate to play around and seduce at the slightest attempt to focus with my lenses. 100% photographer's joy.
Despite the fact that womenswear designer Katya Leonovich was born in Moscow, she has had a full preparation in cities such as Paris, Milan at prestigious fashion and design schools that encouraged her to develop her skills which have been already awarded in many countries. She has showcased her collections in Moscow, Rome, Milan and New York City where she made her Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week debut on September 2011.
For her Spring 2014 Collection we can find marbled shades of blue, pink, browns and corals in pieces of printed silk and asymmetric feminine sensuality highlighted by embroidered dresses, halter straps and leather looks. Fresh and spring-like attitude.
Check out the video of the show at the end of the post, but first I hope you enjoy my shots of the girls as they were getting their hair and make-up done a few moments before going out to the catwalk of the Studio in Lincoln Center.
