Boy kicks by the sea - 'Beira-Mar' Premiere in Mexico/ FICG 30

Story & coverage photos by Ivan Guerrero
Left to right: Mateus Almada, Maurício José Barcellos, Directors Marcio Reolon & Filipe Matzembacher at the premiere of ‘Beira-Mar’(Seashore), film included in the Maguey Award selection from the FICG 30 (Guadalajara International Film Festival) in Mexico.

‘Beira-Mar’ (Seashore) is the long feature film debut of Brazilian directors Marcio Reolon and Filipe Matzembacher that has recently premiered  at the Forum section of Berlinale 65.
The coming-out story of two friends, Tomaz and Martin and the tensions that result from them their conversations and encounters, openly respond to a “very intimate work/film” as director Marcio Reolon mentioned at the Mexican screening in competition for the Maguey Award- Premio Maguey; the LGBT section/feature contestant selection of the FICG Guadalajara International Film Festival.
With the presentation of a not-so-completely clarified context of both of the young protagonists and with a relatively slow pace and naturally expressed situations and encounters, 'Beira-Mar' deals with the experiences and feelings of young men linked to the process of growing up which is usually affected by many factors such as misconceptions and prejudgements, that somehow shape our actions and relationships in order to finally dive into a new life as we enter the ocean of adulthood.
